IHS featured in Construction Plant News

IHS UK Ltd has been featured in Construction Plant News (CPN) in an article examining the launch of the Firm’s new 18,000ft factory in Sheffield. Initially set up in 2016 in a 6,000 sq ft factory with a 5yr business plan, IHS UK Ltd has taken the decision to expand operations ahead of schedule. The new premises is fitted with two 10ton overhead cranes for moving large machinery, as well as extensive outdoor and office space.

“We knew within six months of opening that the 6,000 sq ft factory we had taken was not going to be enough to meet the capacity we were immediately greeted with,” said Nick Doe, Managing Director for Integrated Hydraulic Solutions. “After many months of talking to commercial agents with regards to premises throughout the Worksop/Sheffield area we finally found the unit we now occupy, which is within just half a mile of our first premises. With the extra space we have also been able to set up an engineering machine shop allowing us to do bespoke in-house work ourselves, therefore saving time for the customer and speeding up any prototyping we do.”

The company has secured contracts across the construction, quarrying, marine, and aerospace industries, and has already started exporting machinery to international regions. With 12 staff members now in place, the increased factory space will allow the firm to take on even bigger on-going projects. Additionally, historically smaller project work such as the creation of automated hydraulic powerpacks has now become developed into fully-mobile processing plants for clients across multiple sectors.

IHS UK Ltd opens 18,000 sq ft factory

Integrated Hydraulic Solutions (IHS UK Ltd) has announced the opening of a new 18,000 sq ft factory in Worksop, Sheffield. Initially set up in 2016 in a 6,000 sq ft factory with a 5yr business plan, IHS UK Ltd has taken the decision to expand operations ahead of schedule. One of HIS UK Ltd’s key USPs is that it is able to provide cutting edge design and build services alongside technical assistance and the manufacturing of bespoke products.

“What we have really seen in hydraulics over the past 10-20yrs is a customer move away from component players towards the need for a more comprehensive solution,” says Doe. “We set-up IHS to provide a single source company that designs, selects, and manufactures solutions for everyday companies. We now have become a one stop engineering shop, offering design all the way through to commissioning, taking in companies visions and making them reality.”

Mixamate introduces Pumped Liquid Screed

Mixamate – the company powered by IHS' unique all-in-one Concrete and Screed pumping machines – today announced the launch of its brand new liquid screed service, providing direct screed delivery from truck to floor via pump. The new liquid screed product will be available through the company’s all in-one screed pumping truck – the unique machine that provides the delivery, mixing, and pumping of screed from a single vehicle. The vehicle produces the screed by weight thus ensuring a perfect mix every time.

“Liquid screed is something we are being asked for increasingly this year,” said Chris Smith, Managing Director for Mixamate. “It comes with certain advantages over sand and cement screed, particularly with the growing popularity of underfloor heating. If people want the option for liquid screed we can deliver any amount from 2m3. Both this new product and our traditional screed mixes can be administered through our all-in-one pumping machines, this dramatically reduces the hassle associated with this type of work.”

New portable powerpack introduced

Integrated Hydraulic Solutions UK (IHS) recently designed and built a brand new portable powerpack for one of its customers.

The specially designed unit will be used to proof test finished bitumen hot boxes, which are fitted to the rear of bitumen mixers in road construction machinery. Each hot box has to be stripped and then rebuilt. In the past, companies did not have any way of testing their refurbished equipment other than fit it to the road laying vehicle (very time consuming – especially if it fails first time out).

IHS was given the task of reproducing the same control functions that the bitumen road laying truck has (operational functions) whilst producing a pluggable hydraulic power supply to replicate the bitumen truck whilst the hotbox is still in the workshop. This solution allows all functions to be tested before being fitted to a vehicle.

The hydraulic power pack has the capability of 7 external functions (hydraulic cylinders and motors) whilst incorporating electrical safety circuit and electronic soft start technology with phase sensing technology to eliminate starting the electrically driven hydraulic pump in the wrong direction (damaging the hydraulic pump).

IHS shortlisted for Intermat award

The specialist all-in-one concrete pumping truck, which was designed and manufactured by IHS Ltd for Mixamate and provides the delivery, mixing and pumping of materials from a single vehicle, has this year been shortlisted for a prestigious international award in Paris.

The awards programme is part of the Intermat International Exhibition for Construction and Infrastructure for building public works equipment, which takes place only once every three years. The shortlisting comes in the category of Lifting, Handling, & Transportation and is based on the new Conqueror machine’s unique ability to solve a specific problem within the industry, namely that of limiting the number of vehicles and amount of machinery on-site when pumping jobs are required.

Mixamate recently deployed the new machine for global construction group HOCHTIEF, where it was required to help complete works on two railway bridges at Highbury & Islington station, London. This new methodology is becoming increasingly popular in the industry, as companies look to save time, hassle, and costs in delivering concrete and screed efficiently.

“It’s a huge honour to have gained this recognition around the Intermat show, which we’ll be attending later on this year,” said Chris Smith, Managing Director for Mixamate. “Since first beginning development on the new truck a couple of years ago now, it has received a great deal of industry praise, including making the manufacturing category shortlist at the London Construction Awards. These technological advancements, alongside the in-house lab testing capabilities we have introduced in recent years, ensures that Mixamate is able to continue leading the industry in providing batching plant standard concrete through a modern, flexible mix-on-site service.”

The machines are produced in the IHS factory in Sheffield and we have now supplied a number of machines to the company. A new liquid screed version of the truck has also recently been introduced, and in 2018 the firm will make further expansions to its existing fleet.
